In 2014, Unilever, in conjunction with its corporate partners – Salesforce, Vodafone and Sapient – helped Tower Hamlets Foodbank streamline its operations though the introduction of smart tools and new technology. Vodafone gifted Wi-Fi dongles, Salesforce provided an App and CRM system and Sapient gave the foodbank’s brand a makeover, including the introduction of a new website. This contribution has enabled the Tower Hamlets Foodbank to more effectively serve people in crisis and to help get them on the road to transformation.
We are proud to have worked in partnership with First Love Foundation, in particular providing funding in 2013 to pilot new untested work in the form of the Advice & Support Project. As we are more than aware of the challenges faced by any small charity to fund innovative projects while also covering their core costs, our support is now unrestricted to afford them the freedom to direct the funds where it is most needed.
Tower Hamlets, Sapient’s local community, is an area of extreme opportunity and extreme deprivation. First Love Foundation and Tower Hamlets Foodbank address this gap on an individual level by helping local people in crisis to get their lives back on track. For Sapient to be able to bring digital support to this transformational work, which is true to our purpose of enabling human potential, is as rewarding as it is vital.

IFCO have developed a long and mutually beneficial relationship with First Love Foundation. This project, under the title “Worldwide Responsibility” aims to support food banks across the world through the provision of crates, knowledge, labour and most recently delivery vans. We support the work of the First Love Foundation as they have developed into an organisation not just supporting people in need with short term food, but to one dealing with the problems at the root cause so as to offer people a way forward with respect and hope.
Working with First Love Foundation is fantastic. Their work in East London is deeply needed; their ethos and approach a beacon. The work that the First Love Foundation does is key to ensuring that poverty within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets is alleviated through tackling the root causes of hidden hunger and financial exclusion. Salesforce in partnership with Unilever has invested our company’s technology and time to help First Love Foundation build a Case Management application to better support the work of Tower Hamlets Foodbank and their Advice & Support Project. The purpose of the application is to track client information & history, voucher management and case management. We’ve started the project with First Love Foundation as the pilot and then will design and build an application for the Trussell Trust, a charity which co-ordinates 420+ food banks – in order to support their plans for growth, automation and simplification.
