We are a small yet well-established and ambitious team, respected for our work over the past 11 years.  We continue to be trail blazers on a mission to end poverty in Britain.

This exciting new role offers the opportunity to make a real impact, shaping campaigns, challenging the current narrative around poverty, and coordinating the logistics of fundraising events.

You will also manage the day-to-day operation of our digital and social media channels and support the Marketing & Communications Manager in delivering our digital fundraising and engagement strategy.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has the drive and ambition to develop as our organisation continues to grow. You will be joining a professional staff team who are based in Poplar, London but are currently following a hybrid model of work.

You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment.  Experience of working in a start-up or charity is desirable.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Act as support to the Head of Business Development and Marketing and Communications Manager
  • Support the execution of the Marketing strategy
  • Run our social channels to improve our reach across our target audiences
  • Support the Marketing & Communications Manager and Head of Business Development to improve stakeholder engagement, inclusive of supporter acquisition and retention
  • Create engaging marketing materials for various campaigns to promote our services
  • Write newsletters for our charity supporters
  • Produce social media posts, campaigns, marketing materials and digital updates
  • Co-ordinate the logistics of key seasonal events
  • Work with a team of designers and volunteers to support on the production of key assets
  • Co-ordinate fundraising events

Social Media

  • Maintain and build FLF’s social media presence, ensuring our social media channels are populated with engaging content with a consistent, strong voice to maximise potential for exposure among our target audiences.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to create and develop digital campaigns (including fundraising and awareness raising campaigns) to be run across social media platforms, including the creation of visual assets and development of campaign messaging.
  • Manage a calendar of social media and website activity.
  • Monitor and report on engagement, number of followers and website referrals to inform best practice for post timing and content.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for queries received through social media and inbound emails, ensuring they are responded to appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Work with Marketing and Communications Manager to manage social media marketing before and during FLF events, evaluating success in terms of event sign-ups and engagement to inform future event planning.


  • Responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of FLF’s website, including making edits and creating new content.
  • Ensure the website content is proofread and accurate, and any broken links or errors are promptly corrected.
  • Work with external website developer to resolve issues with the website and further develop design of website to accommodate emerging needs.


  • Support the Marketing & Communications Manager to develop email marketing campaign strategy, leading to design, editing and creation of content for regular emails.
  • Produce in-house marketing materials including event brochures, graphics and videos using platforms such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint and other editing tools.


  • Contribute to the development of the fundraising and engagement strategy to grow income and audience.
  • Embrace the charity’s vision and values whilst continually seeking ways to build stronger and long-lasting initiatives that help bring the values to life.
  • Keep up to date with charity sector developments, best practice initiatives and relevant training.
  • Identify ways of streamlining processes and improving ways of working within the charity.

Person Specification

Ideally from a poverty-tackling or campaigning background, you will be able to demonstrate significant effectiveness in previous roles and the ability to communicate effectively through social media platforms.  You are comfortable executing digital campaigns and following up with responders.

You are experienced in handling many projects at one time and you are used to working in a fast-paced, challenging environment, such as a start-up or small charity.

You have the creative flare and ability to produce creative assets to communicate key messages whilst also having a keen eye, able to proof read and correct copy.

You should be familiar with running all aspects of digital marketing and comfortable outsourcing to a team of designers.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrable experience of successfully working within a digital communications environment
  • Confident in using and running Social Media accounts
  • Experience with end-to-end digital campaign management
  • Experience in reporting on campaign outcomes
  • Excellent copywriting skills for websites, social media, blogs and newsletters
  • Excellent ability to generate and communicate new, out-of-the-box ideas
  • Experience and understanding of digital marketing and a proven ability to increase reach and awareness
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience in website maintenance (experience using WordPress preferable)
  • IT literate with proficiency in using Microsoft Office packages such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload, multi-task, work to tight and changing deadlines
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build good working relationships within the office and with key stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with initiative to develop campaigns
  • A collaborative team player who is prepared to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in alongside a small and dedicated team

Desirable Skills

  • An understanding of the distinction between Social Media Channels, their uses and their algorithms
  • Experience in working with CRM systems for fundraising, record-keeping and GDPR compliance (ideally Salesforce)
  • Experienced in using either MailChimp or Active Campaign, specifically: email deliverability optimisation, running email campaigns, split tests, campaign reports and analysis to inform future campaigns; and able to integrate into Salesforce
  • Familiar with online giving platforms
  • Proven ability to identify and develop fundraising and engagement opportunities with our network of supporters
  • Employment or volunteer work in the charity sector
  • CIM qualification would be advantageous
